pH Balance

There has been a lot of research on the body's pH levels and its ability to fight disease and cancers.  It is widely believed by many holistic doctors and nutritionists that maintaining proper pH levels in the body is an important step to prevent diseases such as cancer.

The theory behind an alkaline diet is that because our body's pH level is slightly alkaline, with a normal range of 7.36 to 7.44, our diet should reflect this and also be slightly alkaline. An imbalanced diet high in acidic foods such as animal protein, sugar, caffeine, and processed foods tends to disrupt this balance.  It can deplete the body of alkaline minerals such as sodium, potassium, magnesium, and calcium, making people prone to chronic and degenerative disease.

Acid Alkaline Food Chart

The food chart shows the pH level of common foods.  Do not try to make drastic changes in your diet overnight or you will be prone to failure.  Instead, make subtle changes and try to improve over time.

Tips on changing your diet

bulletAdd lemon or lime to your water.
bulletTake a calcium supplement.
bulletDrink green tea instead of coffee or black tea
bulletReduce intake of pop, coffee and alcohol
bulletDrink one glass of water for each beer or alcoholic beverage consumed.
